April in Thailand is either hot or oppressively hot with average temperatures in the high 30s (high-90s Fahrenheit).
The central region, including Bangkok, is oppressively hot. Be sure to ask for an air-conditioned room and site seeing can be difficult due to the heat so make sure that you plan for shorter day tours. Northern Thailand, such as Chiang Mai, continues to be hazy. The smoky haze can still cause respiratory problems and irritate eyes. To escape the head you can head northeast to the Mekong River which offers a slight break from the oppressive heat, and can be a great way to explore life along the river.
The east coast beaches of like Koh Chang, and Koh Samui, experience the best weather for diving and beach going. The west coast beaches like Phuket will see rain showers that increase in frequency as the month goes, although it is still possible to get a few rain free beach days in.
The oppressive heat of April makes Thailand less desirable to visit. But, it may be the last chance to visit the beaches of southwest Thailand which tend to close at the end of the month for monsoon season.
