You will have chance to discover all the famous sites of the South in a deeper way including Yangon, Golden Rock, Mawlamyaing, Pha An, Ye, Dawei, Myeik, and Kawthaung. We start in Yangon with visits to the must-see sights whose highlight is the world largest pagoda of Shwedagon. Followed by a scenic drive to Golden Rock, situated at an elevation of 1200 m above sea level and headed to picturesque Pha-an. The setting itself, the surrounding caves and mountains to explore, and the laid back atmosphere are the highlights of this area. Keep driving further to the south of Myanmar through Mawlamynie, and then Ye - the remote and rarely visited town in Mon State. You will then reach Dawei, a sleepy tropical town with a number of beautiful beaches in the vicinity. End the trip with a journey to the busy and strategically significant port for over 500 years of Myeik and interesting speedboat to Kawthaung.   • Day 1: Yangon Arrival (-/-/-)

    Yangon - Airport: 14km, ~15min drive

    yangonUpon arrival at Yangon airport, you will be met and transferred to hotel by our guide and driver. After making sure of your successful hotel check-in, they will be pleased to leave you free time for your own lunch and leisure to recover after the long flight.

    Our afternoon sightseeing tour starts with Chaukhtatkyi Pagoda, a huge reclining Buddha, Karaweik Hall, a Royal floating barge on the Royal Lake for a photo stop and, visit the Shwedagon Pagoda described by Somerset Maugham: "The Shwedagon rose superb, glistening with its gold, like a sudden hope in the dark night of the soul of which the mystics write, glistening against the fog and smoke of the thriving city." This massive bell-shaped stupa rises nearly 100 meters above its hill-top surroundings. Wander through this magnificent structure and its courtyards, stupas, bells, Temples, and Buddha images, and see religious and secular visitors from all parts of the globe. Shwedagon has become the symbol of Myanmar. Enjoy the sunset over the Pagoda.

    Day 2: Yangon - Kyaikhtiyo (Golden Rock) (B/L/-)

    Yangon - Bago: 77km, ~1h30min drive

    bagoAfter having breakfast, we start the road trip to the “Golden Rock”. En route, visit a tree shrine dedicated to legendary animist spirits known as ‘Nats’, a handicraft village that produces woven bamboo wares. After half and an hours, you will get to Bago and upon arrival to Bago, you are to visit the studies of Buddha's teachings with the monks of Kyakhatwaing monastery where over 1000 Buddhist monks reside. Afterwards we take another 2 hours’ drive to get to Mountain view restaurant for lunch break nearby Kin Pun base Camp.

    From Kin Pun, a steep and rough 11km road leads to the upper staging point, a journey made in open trucks, which can be very crowded. Start your light trekking of approx. 45 minutes to the famous “Golden Rock Pagoda”. This miracle Pagoda is situated in Mon State, regarded as one of the most sacred pagodas along with Shwedagon from Yangon and Maha Muni from Mandalay. It is also believed the hair relic of the Buddha was enshrined in the huge rock which is hanging and balancing on the edge of the cliff.  Enjoy and overlook the magnificence view of the surrounding area and overnight stay in Kyaikhtiyo.

    Day 3: Golden Rock - Hpa-An (B/-/-)

    Kyaikhtiyo - Mawlamyine: 125km, ~4h drive

    mawlamyineToday we depart from Kyaiktiyo for Hpa-An. Enjoy a brief stop in Thahton, former capital of the Mon Kingdom. And drive along endless paddy fields, coconut plantations, and small farm villages to reach closer to Hpa-An, rock formations appear, similar to the ones in Halong Bay or Phang Nga. Upon arrival in Hpa-An, we transfer to hotel for check-in.

    In the afternoon, we visit Kawh Goon Cave. This cave is by far the most interesting. The entrance to the cave is covered with hundreds of small Terracotta votive tablets which are plastered up to the ceiling – some are tiny, some are big. VisitSaddham Cave, great cave with 2260 feet length and many stalactites/stalagmites and the must at the end of the cave a place where daydream can grow: a natural lake at the end of the cave. Then, visit Kyauktalat Monastery. This monastery is known for its shape and location on a tiny island (access via a bridge without reeling).

    Day 4: Hpa-An - Mawlamyine (B/-/-)

    Mawlamyine - Hpa-An: 57km, ~1h15min drive

    hpa-anAfter having breakfast, we drive to Mawlamyine. On the way, visit to U Na Aung’s Monastery which is a bit forbidden place and to enjoy fine wall painting and mirror arts. Visit to Mawlamyine’s local market and then visit to Win Seint Tawya monastery and the world’s biggest reclining Buddha image at Mudone. Proceed to Mahamuni pagoda and Kyaikthanlan Pagoda and Seindone Mebayar Kyaung and enjoy old colonial building.

    Day 5: Mawlamyine - Ye (B/-/-)

    Hpa-An - Yangon: 295km, ~4h drive

    hpa-an tourAfter an early breakfast, we depart for Thanbyuzayet which is 34 km away from Maulamyaing and also the starting point of the Death Railway connects Myanmar and Thailand together by the bridge over river Kwai. The bridge was built by very talented Japanese during WWII. In 1943, the railway started and went on operation. There were more than 20,000 prisoner died constructing it. The farther we go, the narrower roads and the smaller villages become. On the way to Ye, we will make a turn to Banana Mountain overlooking the whole Ye valley. The tower at the top has its nine levels with different decorations in each level.

    As we arrive in Ye, we will take a break before visiting a local brick factory and learn the way bricks are made. The locals will show you how hard they work and willing to take photos with you. At the end of the day, you are able to catch the most gorgeous sunset over the Ye Railway Bridge.

    Day 6: Ye - Dawei (B/-/-)

    Dawei Morning after breakfast, we soon start to ride over a stunning mountain range dividing the Tanintharyi Division and the Mon State to hit the Ye’s Train Station leading straight to the jungle. Then we leave for Dawei, check in and refresh. Being well known as the capital of Tanintharyi Division, Dawei has the most long-lasting history and picturesque construction in colonial architecture.

    In the afternoon, we are about to wander around Dawei’s river front to dig in the pace of daily life of the local people. Day ends, we will stop at Dawei’s Paya Gyi museum and Shwe Taung Sar pagoda. There is a valuable collection of bronze coins, vase, portraits and large wooden ancient Buddha images in the museum for you to take a look at.

    Day 7: Dawei (B/-/-)

    Dawei tourToday after breakfast at hotel, we will spend time on discovering Dawei’s daily activities and its famous sights. We will drop by a local family that runs cashew nut business and get help from them to peel one nut. Later on, we head straight to San Maria Bay. Enjoy the beach. And then proceed to Maung Ma Gan beach for having relaxing time, enjoying sunset and standard dinner.

    Day 8: Dawei - Palaw - Myeik (B/-/-)

    Myeik  1Morning after breakfast, we depart for an adventurous overland drive about 155 miles (8 hours) to Myeik. This journey takes us on a narrow and winding and bumpy road through the Southern plateau for us to be able to reach Palaw and Myeik. Once we reach Palaw, we are halfway to Myeik and we will make a rest stop. Palaw is the small town of ethnic people of Dawei and they are famous for local fisheries products and other local handicrafts that originate in this particular area.

    After our rest stop in Palaw, we will continue the driving to Myeik, crossing over the rolling hills of the Southern part of Myanmar, that includes breathtaking sights of the spectacular landscape and the pure nature that the area can offer. You will have the possibility of short stops on the way to explorer the serene scenery of paddy fields, hidden small towns, rural villages and daily local lifestyle along the way. Arrival in Myeik will be in the evening and we will proceed directly to your hotel for check in and refreshments.

    Day 9: Myeik (B/-/-)

    Myeik 2Myeik is a busy port and an important center for fishing industries as well as dried-fish factories, bird’s nest’s collecting and the rubber plantations. Myeik town has elegant wooden architecture and very busy streets life. Myeik is also famous for Myanmar pearls harvested by the Salon or Moken people (sea gypsies).

    Today’s exploration will be to visit the fish market which host one of largest fish markets in Myanmar. After visiting the fish market, we will drive to the riverside wharf where many wooden fishing boats are parked on the muddy riverbanks. From the jetty take a small wooden boat to Pahtaw Island (10mins trip), visit the reclining Buddha which is located on the island. It is possible to walk up the stairs to the top of the hill to see the panoramic views of both Myeik city and the outer islands. Then we will proceed to the dockyard where you will see local people, building and maintaining wooden fishing boats. We will head back to Myeik, and visit the Thain Taw Gyi Roadwhich is full of old monasteries with separate compounds and these monasteries are as beautiful as the monasteries in Sagaing. Afterwards we will proceed to a main pagoda, to enjoy the panoramic views and the breathtaking sunset over the islands in the Andaman Sea.

    Day 10: Myeik - Boat trip to Kawthaung (B/-/-)

    your speedboat to KawthaungMorning after breakfast, we transfer to jetty and take your speedboat to Kawthaung. The trip will take at least 5 hours. You will get some beautiful views of the islands as you pass by and get a better view of the islands and local fishing boats while you are onboard. You will arrive Kawthaung at 3pm. Kawthaung is the home to the Barma, Thai and other ethnic minorities like Shan and Karen… so this place is also a great stop for visitors those want to experience the culture and customs of the locals.

    If your trip includes domestic flights if any, they will be operated by Vietnam Airlines, the largest airline in Vietnam. The fleet consists mainly of Airbus and Boeing. On some short trips, the company operates 72 ATR and some Fokker.

    Rail transport

    Train travel can be offered (particularly between Hanoi-Lao Cai and Hanoi-Hue). Travelling at a speed of 60km/h on average it is not necessarily the fastest but an interesting experience nonetheless.
