Putao Trekking 9 Days is designed for ultimate off the beaten path experience. Located at the northernmost part of Myanmar, Putao is an isolated city with untouched nature and diverse landscape. This tour is combination of tribe village on the dirt trails of Rewang, Kachin, Lisu people and natural beauty of wild animals with flora and fauna which only reached by foot. We will have entirely 6 days to mingle with nature, odd culture of hill tribes before head back to Yangon to discover the bustling former capital Yangon with its magnificent and holy pagodas, incredible giant Buddhas, especially historical Shwedagon Pagoda, the most revered Buddhist temple in Burma

  • Day 1: Yangon Arrival (-/-/-)

    Yangon - Airport: 14km, ~15min drive

    yangonUpon arrival at Yangon airport, you will be met and transferred to hotel by our guide and driver. After making sure of your successful hotel check-in, they will be pleased to leave you free time for your own lunch and leisure to recover after the long flight. The rest of the day is at leisure for your personal discovery of this vibrant city.

    Day 2: Yangon - Flight to Putao - Shangaung Village (B/L/D)

    Yangon - Putao: 1582km, ~4h15min flight

    putaoMorning after breakfast at hotel, you will be transferred to Yangon airport for your flight to Pu Tao in the north of Myanmar- Kachin state. Located in a flat valley, Putao has earned its reputation as an outdoor playground with gorgeous rivers, diverse wildlife and snow-capped mountains ready for adventurers.

    After lunch at a local restaurant,  we get on a truck/ jeep (depending on your group size) to upper Shangaung village (approx. 1 hour) on a rugged road. Shangaung is considered as one of the big villages on the vicinity of Putao and it has two separate villages and inhabitant of both Lisu and Rawan tribes.

    Day 3: Shagaung - Wasandum (B/L/D)

    putao 2Rising up early for a morning colorful market to meet new touch of Kachin culture. And then start your adventure as trek to Wasandum village (20 km and appox. 6 hours) through Mt. Shangaung at 1362 meters.  First 10 km will be straight up along the trail winding up to the top of Mt. Shangaung from then trail goes all the way down to Wasandum. This will be the testing journey for you as you have to ascend from 1060 meters up to 1362 meters and then descend back to 860 meters. A picnic lunch will be served on the way. 

    Arrival at Wasandum village which is located on the bank of Namlam river, you can enjoy your time by having a bath with crystal clean water. It will help to release all your exhaust after a long trekking day.

    Day 4: Wasandum - Awadum - Kalang - Ziyadum (B/L/D)

    myanmar trekking tonkin travelHave breakfast and leave the village for Ziyadum village which is situated about 1500 m above the sea level.  At first take an easy trek on the flat route in the forest along the Namro creek to reach Awadum village (3 hours). Awadum is mainly inhabited by Lisu tribes and separate into two by a large paddy field. Here we cross a suspension bridge that spans Namlang creek to Kalang village with the distance 4.8 km (1.5 hours).  

    Lunch stop and continue trek to Ziyadum (2 hours). Zitadum is the last Rawan village in the north-west of Putao located on the bank of Ziya River. Take the great photos and enjoy the fantastic sunset view along the river.

    Day 5: Ziyadum - Chaungzone - Ziyadum (B/L/D)

The journey first crosses over Phangran creek by suspension bridge then traverse an evergreen forest with slightly undulating tracks. All of us will be in the dense forest to enjoy the nature.

    After having lunch and relax time in Chaungzone village, we will get back to the village. You have free time for relaxing in Ziyadum village. You might prefer to walk around the village, simple sit by the Ziya River, fishing iced-water fish, enjoy the Mountain View.

    Day 6: Ziyadum - Kalang - Wasundum (B/L/D)

    trekking in burma - tonkin travelEnjoy your last time and bit farewell the locals in Ziyadum village before trekking again back to Kalang and Wasundum village. Waking around the village and have a chance to observe the authentic way of mountain tribes life.

    Have lunch in Kalang village and continue our trek to Wasundum village by crossing over suspension bridges at Awadum and passing through the lush evergreen forest. Arrive in Wasundum village in the afternoon.

    Day 7: Wasundum - Shangaung (B/L/D)

    putao trek - tonkin travelLeave the wilderness behind and return to the clutches of human civilization. Today we will resume the journey to Shangaung village. Start the trek challenging uphill to the plateau of Mt. Shangaung before continuing rapidly downhill to Shangaung. Here we will have a farewell dinner with our fellow group members such as our leaders, porters and share your feeling for this trekking tour in this unique part of the world.

    Day 8: Shangaung - Putao - Flight to Yangon (B/-/-)

    yangon tour - tonkin travelEarly morning after breakfast, you will be transferred back to Putao and have breakfast here. Then transfer you to the airport for your domestic flight back to Yangon. If time permits, we can drop by Shwedagon Pagoda, one of the world’s most spectacular religious monuments. It’s famous for the golden dome pagoda where you can see the local ways of life and belief. And head to Chaukhtatgyi Pagoda (the huge reclining Buddha Statue in length of 72 meters long) and then drive back to hotel to check out.

    Your last destination is Scott Market- the major shopping centre in Yangon. Souvenirs, Myanmar arts & handicrafts, Lacquer ware, wood & ivory carvings, tapestries, silver & brass ware, silk & cotton fabrics, jewellery & precious stones are available at reasonable prices.

    This trip is private and therefore can be altered to suit your needs, date of commencement and budget requirements.

    Prices vary due to a number of specifics:

    • Seasonal: during high season (October-April), the prices of services are generally higher when compared to the low season (May-September).

    All transfers during your trip are covered by private vehicle with driver, unless otherwise indicated in our offer. We ensure that our vehicles are new and comfortable. Fuel, tolls, accommodation, compensation and the driver are included in our offer. Only gratuities are not included and are at your discretion.

    Domestic flights

    If your trip includes domestic flights if any, they will be operated by Vietnam Airlines, the largest airline in Vietnam. The fleet consists mainly of Airbus and Boeing. On some short trips, the company operates 72 ATR and some Fokker.

    Rail transport

    Train travel can be offered (particularly between Hanoi-Lao Cai and Hanoi-Hue). Travelling at a speed of 60km/h on average it is not necessarily the fastest but an interesting experience nonetheless.
