Day 1: Saigon City One-Day Tour
Our guide will meet you at your hotel at 8:00 am and you will head out to visit Saigon’s many sites. Our first stop will be at the Notre Dame Cathedral and the General Post Office. Situated right across the street from one another they are prime examples of French colonial architecture. Notre Dame Cathedral was constructed from 1877-1883 using bricks imported from France. The General Post Office finished in 1891 and is to this day still a functioning post office. We then walk past the Opera House, which served as the Lower House Assembly of South Vietnam from 1956 to 1975. Our next stop is at the Reunification Palace. The former residence of South Vietnam’s President until April 30, 1975, when Viet Cong tanks came rolling through the front gates thus bringing the Vietnam War to a dramatic end.
Following lunch at a local restaurant, we will visit the harrowing War Remnants Museum. We then spend the rest of the afternoon exploring Cho Lon. While walking through Cho Lon, we visit Thien Hau Pagoda, an impressive structure with beautiful friezes carved on the front entrance. Next stop the bustling Ben Thanh Market. In the Ben Thanh Market, you are free to do some shopping and snacking. The market is full of vendors selling souvenirs, dried food goods, household items, fresh produce, meat, fish, and a variety of drinks. It’s truly a site to be seen. After visiting the market the tour is over. The guide will bring you back to the hotel or you’re more than welcome to explore onwards from here. Be sure to ask for some inside recommendations!
