  • As one of the most mysterious and undiscovered destinations in the world, Myanmar offers all the traditional delights of Asia. Hidden Gems of Myanmar is designed to capture both the cultural highlights of Myanmar and adventure trekking. We start the trip in Yangon with its magnificent and holy pagodas and incredible giant Buddhas. Flying to Heho, you will be taken to villages of Taung Thu, Danu and Pao ethnic minorities. All the villages are situated on the high altitude where you can enjoy trekking times among the forest hills with nice weather. There is a short excursion to Inle Lake, known for its floating gardens, leg rowers and colorful markets before flying to Bagan to visit Mt. Popa - a significant part of Myanmar’s culture, religion and history since the earliest times. Another local boat trip will take you to Pakkoku and Mingun to observe the local river life. You will stay in local villages during this trip. Although the provided facilities of local houses or monasteries are just basic, you will have chance to get new experience, visit local school kids & monks and interact with friendly local people

  • Day 1: Yangon Arrival (-/-/-)

    Yangon - Airport: 14km, ~15min drive

    yangonUpon arrival at Yangon airport, you will be met and transferred to hotel by our guide and driver. After making sure of your successful hotel check-in, they will be pleased to leave you free time for your own lunch and leisure to recover after the long flight. The rest of the day is at leisure for your personal discovery of this vibrant city.

    Day 2: Yangon City (B/-/-)

    yangon 2After breakfast at hotel, we start your city tour by a visit to the Kyaukhtatgyi Pagoda to see a 70 meter long reclining Buddha statue around the size of a blue whale. Afterwards, you continue uptown in order to make a quick stop by the Royal Lake located in Kandawgyi Park which is very popular with local residents, especially in the early morning and around sunset. Catch a view of Karaweik Hall, a reproduction of a royal barge and enjoy a spectacular view of the Golden Shwedagon Pagoda.

    In the afternoon, we head to the Central Yangon Railway Station to enjoy a trip on the circular train. On your 28-mile transfer, you will pass by many towns, suburban areas through 39 stations. For sure, the circular train is by far the best way for an overview of Yangon. Make a stop en route at Da Nyin Gone Station where we connect the trip to. We take a walk for around 45 minutes in this place with a visit of a lively local market to meet and observe the authentic life in Yangon. Embark the train once more and continue downtown, where the Little India and Chinatown is waiting for you to be discovered. Visit one of the local tea shops on the street corner for a cup of traditional tea. It is the perfect way to round off your day. Transfer back to your hotel.

    Day 3: Yangon - Flight to Heho - Kalaw (B/L/D)

    Yangon - Heho: 630km, 57min flight

    Ihehon the morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to airport for a flight to Heho. On your arrival, transfer to Kalaw. After a short break, an open pick-up truck brings you to the meeting point. Visit Lupyin, a village inhabited by the Danu tribes. All the cool and mountain air, pine forests, amazing landscapes and ethnic minorities make the Shan state a great deal trekking route. Take this chance to learn about the traditions of different ethnic. And then, continue our trekking to Sharpin village for an hour. Visit old Danu monastery and have a picnic lunch there.

    After lunch and some rest, we make our way to the Linn Pan Village, home of the Pa O minority. Observe Danu people’s life and discover this village before heading to Nant Thale, the place where you can visit a local school to learn more about Burmese education and talk to the young students. Enjoy the sunset on a hill near the monastery and stay in the monastery to enjoy a traditional dinner which is an unique experience.

    Day 4: Kalaw Trekking (B/L/D)

    trekking myanmarAfter breakfast, we continue our trek through the mountains of Shan State. Proceed to Bawhinnkone village. It is one of the big Pao villages and there are 300 houses and nearly one thousand people live together. On the mountain there are not many trees in that area. Visit Konehla, a small Danu village. Most of the people grow the vegetable and rice. They use buffalos and cows for their farming and transportation on the mountain. Lunch at a Danu tradition house and take a rest and observe their daily activity.

    After lunch, we do trekking Pattu Pauk Village where we stop for tea break. You can see the different kinds of weaving baskets with Bamboo and then proceed 40 minutes trekking to a farming area through bamboo forests; you will be at Htee Taing village. Overnight at the wonderful wooden Htee Taing Monastery.

    Day 5: Kalaw Trekking - Inle Lake (B/L/-)

    kalaw trekking - tonkin travelAfter breakfast, we set off for the last trekking part to Inle Lake. This part takes you through diverse panoramic views over the lake and different Pa O villages. After around three hours we reach to Taung Thu village and see another different trible of Taung Thu people. All of them use their black color traditional costumes and live only on the mountain area. Then you continue for another hour to Inle Lake where you will be transferred to your hotel. Enjoy the sunset from your room and dinner at hotel.

    Day 6: Inle Lake (B/-/-)

    inle lakeAfter breakfast, we enjoy a full day boat trip on Inle Lake - a photographer’s dream. Its calm waters are dotted with floating vegetation and fishing canoes, to which scenic hills provide the perfect backdrop. See the lake’s unique ‘leg rowers’ - Intha fishermen who row standing up with one leg wrapped around a single oar, leaving their hands free to manipulate the conical fishing net. Stop at Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda, the holiest religious site in southern Shan State. Visit a traditional silk-weaving workshop which uses wooden handlooms, and a blacksmith’s forge. Pass endless floating gardens, where Intha lake dwellers grow fruit and vegetables. Continue by boat to visit Nga Phe Kyaung Monastery, one of the oldest on the lake, where you can see exquisite Buddha statues which are more than 200 years old.  Return to your hotel by boat as the sun lowers and the light softens over the lake.

    Day 7: Inle Lake - Heho - Flight to Bagan (B/-/-)

    inle lake 2This morning after breakfast, meet our driver who will transfer you to Heho airport for your flight to Bagan. Upon arrival at Nyaung U Airport, start our tour with a diverse collection of the most important pagodas and temples in Bagan. These consist of Shwezigon Pagoda, a huge gilded zedi built by King Anawrahta in the early 11th century, Gu ByaukGyi, a 13th century temple with exquisite murals of Jataka scenes, and the immediately recognizable Ananda Temple; one of the finest and largest temples with its 170 ft shimmering gold spire and four huge standing-Buddha images and numerous seated figures arranged around the interior gallery.

    We then proceed to a lacquer craftsman's workshop in nearby Myingaba village. Round off your day with a visit to Manuha Temple, built in Mon style in 1059. And enjoy sunset at one of the monuments along Ayeyarwady River.

    Day 8: Bagan - Mt.Popa - Bagan (B/-/-)

    baganAfter having breakfast, we drive to Mt. Popa – 48 km from Bagan. Mount Popa has been a significant part of Myanmar’s culture, religion and history since the earliest times. Its shrine is dedicated to worship the 37 Nats, an old Burmese animist spirit. As you climb the stairs to the top with your local guide, you will gain very interesting knowledge about nats and nat worship.  From the top of the peak you can have an amazing view over the Myingyan Plain (note that the climb is optional). After lunch, return drive back to Bagan.

    On the way back, en route stop at village cottage industry to learn the regional product as well as to watch the collection of juice from the palm trees, and its conversion to brown sugar. Do not miss out the chance to try the palm juice.

    Day 9: Bagan - Pakkoku - Monywa (B/-/-)

    bagan myanmar tour - tonkin travelAfter having breakfast, we leave Bagan and for a local boat trip across the Ayearwaddy River to Pakoku (approx. 3 hours). You will have a chance to observe the local river life while cruise this interesting river journey. Upon arrival, visit the open-air market and cigar factory. If time permits, we continue to visit wood carving sculpture and slippers workshop. Continue your trip to Monywa, on the way we stop to visit an authentic village named Ma Ahu Ale Ywa. This village is known as a little Bagan where you can see the cluster of ancient pagodas dating back to 1000 years ago. Have free time and overnight in Monywain.

    Day 10: Monywa Sightseeing - Mandalay (B/-/-)

    mandalayMorning after breakfast, we drive about 20 km out of Monywa to visit the famous Thanboddhay pagoda. You will see thousands of Buddha images here (reported over half million) decorating very wall, archway and niche. The buildings in the compound have interesting Jataka releifs. Then proceed to Sagaing dotted with over thousands of Buddhist Monasteries & Nunneries over the hillock of Sagaing. Visit Kaung Mudaw Pagoda with its enormous white dome and its some 800 stone pillars. Enjoy the sunset over Sagaing Hill before transferring to Mandalay for your overnight.

    Day 11: Mandalay - Mingun - Amarapura - Mandalay (B/-/-)

    mingunAfter breakfast at hotel, you will be transferred to the jetty where to take a ferry boat to Mingun, 11 km upriver from Mandalay on the western bank of Ayeyarwaddy River. After taking the boat trip for about 45 minutes, you can walk and start your tour includes the Mingun Pagoda, unfinished pagoda which might have been the biggest pagoda in the history of Buddhism, Mingun bell, the world largest ringing bell, and Myatheindan Pagoda. Then take a downstream cruise Mandalay and lunch is served on boat.

    In the afternoon, we take a half day tour to visit Amarapura – an ancient capital of Burmese Kings. And we also visit some must-see sites consist of Mahamuni pagoda, U Bien Bridge and don’t forget to enjoy the most interesting sunset over this famous bridge.

    Day 12: Mandalay - Departure (B/-/-)

Visit the Old Palace grounds and continued to Kuthodaw Pagoda, known as the world's largest book for its 729 marble slabs inscribed with the Buddha's Doctrine. Last but not least, visit Golden Palace Monastery, noted for its exquisite wood carvings then drive back to hotel to check out and then drive straight Mandalay International Airport for your departure flight to onward destination.     This trip is private and therefore can be altered to suit your needs, date of commencement and budget requirements.

    Prices vary due to a number of specifics:

    • Seasonal: during high season (October-April), the prices of services are generally higher when compared to the low season (May-September).

    If your trip includes domestic flights if any, they will be operated by Vietnam Airlines, the largest airline in Vietnam. The fleet consists mainly of Airbus and Boeing. On some short trips, the company operates 72 ATR and some Fokker.

    Rail transport

    Train travel can be offered (particularly between Hanoi-Lao Cai and Hanoi-Hue). Travelling at a speed of 60km/h on average it is not necessarily the fastest but an interesting experience nonetheless.
